Overview

When you activate Warren Soultrader’s ability to create a Treasure, that token creation is subject to three replacement effects from Academy Manufactor, Chatterfang, Squirrel General, and Peregrin Took; because all three are replacement effects you control, you choose the order they’re applied () and different orders give different final token sets (see examples below). Replacement-effect interactions can treat the underlying “token creation” as a single event or as multiple events, so the order choice matters (). and explain Peregrin Took’s and Chatterfang’s requirements for applying, and confirms Chatterfang applies to Clue/Food/Treasure tokens.

Step 1

Start: You activate Warren Soultrader’s ability (pay 1 life, sacrifice another creature) to create a single Treasure token. That creation event is what replacement effects will modify.

Step 2

Identify applicable replacement effects you control: Academy Manufactor ('If you would create a Clue, Food, or Treasure token, instead create one of each.'), Peregrin Took ('If one or more tokens would be created under your control, those tokens plus an additional Food token are created instead.'), and Chatterfang ('If one or more tokens would be created under your control, those tokens plus that many 1/1 green Squirrel creature tokens are created instead.'). All three are replacement effects that would apply to this token-creation event.

Step 3

Because you control all three replacement effects, you choose the order to apply them (). Remember that replacement effects can treat the same 'happening' as one event or multiple events, so order changes the arithmetic ().

Step 4

Example order A (Academy Manufactor → Peregrin Took → Chatterfang): Warren's single Treasure creation is first replaced by Academy Manufactor with one each of Clue, Food, and Treasure (3 tokens). Peregrin Took then sees 'one or more tokens would be created' and adds one additional Food (total 4 tokens: Clue x1, Food x2, Treasure x1). Chatterfang then replaces the creation of those 4 tokens with those 4 plus 4 Squirrel tokens, producing final result: Clue x1, Food x2, Treasure x1, Squirrel x4.

Step 5

Example order B (Peregrin Took → Academy Manufactor → Chatterfang): Warren's Treasure creation is first replaced by Peregrin Took to create Treasure + Food (2 tokens). Academy Manufactor can then apply to each Food/Treasure token being created and (for each such token) replace it with one of each (Clue + Food + Treasure). If applied per-token, that yields 2 × (Clue, Food, Treasure) = Clue x2, Food x2, Treasure x2 (6 tokens). Chatterfang then adds 6 Squirrels, giving final result: Clue x2, Food x2, Treasure x2, Squirrel x6.

Step 6

You may pick other orders (e.g., applying Chatterfang earlier), and each lawful order can produce different totals. The game rules for replacement-effect ordering () permit you to choose the order for effects you control; if replacement effects are controlled by different players, APNAP ordering applies instead.

Resolution

All three replacement effects (Academy Manufactor, Peregrin Took, Chatterfang) can apply to the Treasure that Warren Soultrader would create, and the controller of those effects chooses the order they’re applied (). Because replacement effects can treat a happening as one event or many, different valid application orders produce different final results (). Peregrin Took only applies if you are the one creating the tokens (here you are, since you activated Warren) (). Chatterfang applies to any tokens created under your control, including Clue/Food/Treasure tokens (; ).
